The Collectors Edition.

Folly 003 made its debut at the Frankfurt Book Fair and returns with the same company it has always kept: local and international writers working at the risqué, intelligent and beautiful edge the journal is known for.

Kirsha Kaechele dismantles the ego by way of ayahuasca and online trolling. Max Rashbrooke goes to Fieldays. Danyl McLauchlan considers AI and creativity. The Australian writer Katy Knighton takes up the one thing every teenager does and no parent will name. The Reserve Bank's chief economist explains, plainly, why the New Zealand economy is fucked. And Nikki Gemmell's essay on the word cunt proved, to one national retailer, more objectionable than its own shelves of sadomasochistic billionaire romance — alongside poetry whose use of the f-word was judged a threat to family values.

Folly is a luxury object: made to be read, kept, gifted, displayed. This issue was bestselling, and after selling out is now back for Folly readers to order from anywhere in the world.

When a high-street chain pulled Folly Issue 003 from forty-seven stores over the frankness of female desire and a stray profanity, they gave us an idea.

If the gatekeepers think women's desire is offensive, fine. We'll give it its own imprint.

Smut is the first title from Folly — a collection of erotica that takes the part of human experience publishing is most squeamish about and puts it on good paper. Desire as it's actually lived: raw, filthy, funny, tender, and frequently un-PC. Real stories, from real people, made beautifully.

Smut is an erotic book detailing desire, power and tenderness, from the sacred to the profane — written by people from around the world. Curated alongside international black and white photography, Smut provides a classy, fun and cheeky look into modern courtship, fetish and bedroom antics.

Limited collectors edition in print.

Illustrated by art by local and international photographers.

With thanks to Rudiger Beckmann for the cover image.

“Where all the cool kids are submitting their writing…one of the best literary journals of 2025.”

A person dressed in a pink, fluffy dress with black gloves laying on a pink wooden dresser inside a colorful, eclectic room with pink walls and a ceiling. The room has various quirky, artistic sculptures of women and bright, patterned decorations and curtains. A neon sign reading 'Gloria' is on the red draped wall behind the person.

“Folly has gained a reputation for being serious about ideas but unserious about itself - delivering provocative, boundary pushing art.”
