Emily Makere Broadmore
Co-Founder, Editor-in-Chief
As Editor-in-Chief Emily sets the direction and budgets for each issue of Folly. Her vision for Folly is that each issue encapsulates the mood of the year in which it was printed.
Emily runs a strategic communications consultancy in Wellington and founded the Wellington Writers Studio in 2023, which is home for Folly Journal. Her stories are published in America including at Pinch, Monofiction and other small presses and journals as well as shortlisted for the Commonwealth Prize and the Bridport Prize.

Deanne Rutherford

Deanne is from Te Whanganui-a-Tara, Wellington, with a BA in Theatre and English Literature from Victoria University. Currently also working in her role as Executive Assistant at Tāwhiri Festivals and Experiences, she has rich background in performing arts, event management, procurement, logistics, and sales.As the Head of Folly Marketing and Event Alchemy, Deanne weaves her philanthropic magic into every project, crafting innovative marketing strategies and unforgettable experiences that make a real impact in the arts and events sector.

Emily has managed the production of Folly Journal for two years, keeping the team to schedule and leading the editing round for all short listed and selected submissions.
Emily is a skilled editor, having spent years as an editor and proofreader as well as being senior project editor at an award-winning independent publishing house in New Zealand. She works on Folly alongside her other freelance editing work.

Ari Prakash

Ari Prakash has been on the Folly team since the beginning, running the reading team and short listing the poetry submissions. She writes in her spare time, with stories published in Re-Draft, and has been a staff writer for Massey University’s Massive magazine. During her dabbling, she won 1st place: Best Humour/Satire Writer, 3rd place: Best Creative Writing/Poetry and 1st place tie: Best Headline at the 2021 Aotearoa Student Press Awards. She has an eye for detail and aims to make literature more accessible, diverse and fun.

Dana Turner
Art Direction

Dana manages each year's art selection, working alongside New Zealand galleries and artists and photographers to find emerging artists whose work aligns with Folly. She values her relationships with Folly artists, and encourages anyone represented by a New Zealand gallery to reach out to her ahead of the next issue.
Her passion for the arts started while facilitating art excursions for local children to Auckland Art Gallery, Te Uru.

Tiana Jones
Co-Founder, Head of Readers
Tiana's experience as a strategic marketing and brand strategist for premium luxury brands including Tiffany & Co, Hastens and Atlantis the Palm Dubai saw her manage the branding for Folly in 2022. She now runs the reading team, supporting the curation of over 1200 submissions to Folly each year through the Submittable platform.
