About the Artist
Gavin Chai (B.1997, Malaysia) is a figurative painter and artist based in Tamaki Makarau Auckland. He specializes in the traditional technique of oil painting on wooden panels and canvases, and paints the world through a subtle introverted gaze. His world is idyllic yet often bound by loneliness, and colourful yet often tinged with certain sadness and anxiety. His is a world of interiors. In his practice, he aims to represent the inner life within us and nature that is often silenced by the noises of the exterior world, and express his thoughts through the imaginative use of allegories.
The opening of Gavin’s new show is on Thursday 7 November at Page Galleries. This is a great chance to explore his captivating works and connect with fellow art enthusiasts.
