Folly Submissions Close with over 1400 Entries

Folly Journal submissions closed this month with a staggering number of entries, totalling over 1400 across the poetry, non fiction and prose categories.

The inaugural short story competition, a cornerstone of our mission to celebrate and amplify diverse voices, attracted writers from around the world. New Zealand entries reflected the vibrant literary landscape that exists in Aotearoa, with many works falling outside of the strict literary genre. The final selection for the inaugural issue will bring immense new talent to the forefront of the New Zealand creative writing community.

The response to our short story competition has reaffirmed our belief that there was a void waiting to be filled in the literary landscape of New Zealand. Many of the stories submitted have exemplified what the team fondly refers to as 'The Folly Brief,' captivating readers with their intriguing and playful nature, while pushing the boundaries of traditional storytelling.

As the Folly Journal team reviews and curates these captivating narratives, they eagerly anticipate sharing them with readers and celebrating the immense storytelling prowess that flourishes in New Zealand. The selected stories will be published in the upcoming issue of Folly Journal, set to be released on 3 November this year.

Folly Journal remains committed to nurturing emerging talent and providing a platform for aspiring writers to have their voices heard. Through this short story competition, Folly Journal aims to inspire and encourage the literary community, fostering a sense of belonging and celebration of creativity.
